TYPOGRAPHIC BOOK COVER

The assignment for Helsinki Design School layout lessons was to create a remake of an existing book cover, using mainly typographic elements.

I chose a book that was familiar to me but I never quite liked the illustration of the author in the cover design, created by Elina Warste. The cover made me feel a bit anxious as it was laying on my bed table and I tended to turn the back cover facing up (I’m sorry! The cover was awarded “Onnistuneimmat kannet 2020”.) However, I did like the colors.

I made a million sketches (or so it felt) and finally came up with the idea of direction signs pointing left and right, left and right in a similarly confused and lost manner the author tells his story. I wanted to incorporate the pink color because I think it represents the author and his stories quite well.

(An image of the original cover is the last one.)
